This Saturday, June 19, the Lansing Lugnuts are inducting the fabled (Adrian) Page Fence Giants team into their Michigan Baseball Hall of Fame before their Midwest League game against the Great Lakes Loons (Midland) at 7:05 p.m.
Page Fence was one of the best and most important Black Baseball teams of the 19th century, playing all over the Midwest out of Adrian from 1895-98. The Giants won the unofficial championship of Black Baseball in 1896. The Lugnuts will be wearing replicas of the strikingly different Page Fence togs during the game. The club has announced that it will auction off those special game-worn unis and donate the proceeds to support renovation efforts at Hamtramck Stadium (home of the Detroit Stars of the Negro Leagues).
Check your e-mail for details about this event and contact Gary Gillette at ggillette [at] hamtramckstadium.org if you can attend.
